According to a recent study by Vision 2020, a global joint initiative of the World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, nearly 250 million people worldwide suffer from poor vision – 90 percent of whom live in developing countries. They suffer because they don’t have access to eye care or they simply cannot afford it. Give the Gift of Sight was founded on the belief that clear vision is a basic right, not a luxury. We are committed to delivering clear vision to those in need around the world regardless of their ability to pay.
In 1991, a dozen Luxottica Group employees and optometrists embarked on the inaugural Give the Gift of Sight mission to Costa Rica helping 8,600. Since that time, Give the Gift of Sight has executed over 137 missions to 32 developing countries helping more than 2.5 million people.
